Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
